The Final Pennhurst Re-Use Design and Feasibility Study Is Released

The PM&PA was awarded a $50,000 design services grant through the American Institute of Architects' Community Design Collaborative. Thanks to the kind cooperation of property owner Richard Chakejian, the grant was used to conduct a conceptual design/feasibility study to examine what could very well may be the most groundbreaking adaptive re-use in Pennsylvania history.

A Statement Regarding the Institute of Terror' Haunted Attraction

Over the past months, the Pennhurst Memorial and Preservation Alliance ('PMPA') has been asked to present an official position regarding the advertized 'Institute of Terror' planned by Mr. Randy Bates to take place on the Pennhurst State School grounds in October 2010.

PMPA is dedicated to the proposition that the triumphant yet tragic story embodied on this International Site of Conscience must be preserved to inform and inspire future generations.

Greystone Preservation Bill Approved

A bill sponsored by Senator Richard J. Codey which would establish a task force to develop a preservation plan for the main building at the original Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital in Morris County was unanimously approved by the Senate State Government Committee.

Photos from the Design Team Walkthru posted

In March, members of the design team for the ongoing Re-Use Design Feasibility Study being organized by the Community Design Collaborative and sponsored by the PM&PA and the Preservation Alliance of Greater Philadelphia walked thru the Pennhurst campus to assess the condition of the buildings. Despite decades of neglect, the team determined that the buildings were in overall good condition, and were good candidates for preservation.
